Creating a mobile makerspace in Guatemala City

All four community projects in Guatemala collaborated to form a single mobile makerspace. The group's vision was to share tools as well as technological and artistic knowledge with youth in order to reduce the opportunity gap and allow them to be competitive in a globalized world. The ultimate goal was to therefore increase economic equity in Guatemala.

This team was tasked with creating the physical structure of the makerspace. They used a model originating from the concept of a wheeled cart often used by gum vendors, which can be found on any corner or street in Guatemala City. The structure is a composite piece made with wooden boxes that are removeable. The boxes store tools in different compartments, from soldering irons to hammers to painting supplies.
