Code of Conduct

ZERO1 is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all participants during Amplify 2020. Adhering to the agreements below is a collective responsibility and everyone is individually responsible for checking their own behavior.

The following list is not exhaustive. If you would like the list to be amended, we encourage you to contact us and help us create a more inclusive space.

Privilege and Power

Be aware of the dynamics of power and privilege, including the national, racial, class, and gender privileges you may hold, and how this may affect others.

These are some questions to reflect on:

  • Are you a native speaker of English?
  • Are you cisgender, white, able-bodied, and/or identify as male?
  • Are you an expert in the topic being discussed?
  • Are you using language that is overtly or implicitly discriminating against others?
  • How much time and space are you taking up in this discussion?

Mutual Understanding

Amplify will bring together people from many different backgrounds with diverse opinions and experiences. We recognize our common humanity and that everyone deserves to be heard. This means making every effort to withhold judgment and assumptions regarding others, practicing deep listening during interactions, and welcoming humility and discomfort — opportunity for growth and change can emerge from this space.

Mute Except When Speaking

Please stay on audio mute unless speaking.

When speaking, please consider turning on video if your connection allows as non-verbal communication can aid in inclusive communication between individuals.

Anti-Harassment

We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free Amplify experience for everyone and do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, physical surroundings visible in participant video(s), sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, and unwelcome sexual attention.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact us immediately at info@zero1.org.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior (including, but not necessarily limited to the above), Amplify staff may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event and/or future events.

Thank you to The Ada Initiative and Primer 2020 for inspiration and language regarding codes of conduct.
