Imagining new architecture and rethinking development and the convenience of plastic
Plastic City is a large-scale public installation made from trash and discarded materials. The structure for the installation symbolizes the wave of new architecture being rapidly constructed around the city. This obsession with the “new” in Laos is part of what causes people to think only about short-term benefits of development, including the convenience of plastic. Plastic City is a collaboration between Bounpaul, a professor at the National Institute of Fine Arts, and students from the school. The work was temporarily installed for the Laos Arts Incubator public exhibition, making Plastic City one of the first contemporary public art installations in the country!
